La Conciergerie
Welcome to our 4 star rated Béarnaise country gîte in South West France near the Pyrénées mountains, with large colourful garden
near to the bustling small market town of Navarrenx.
It is an ideal peaceful retreat, perfectly situated for activity-based family holidays. La Conciergerie was originally the gate
house for the chateau in the small village of Méritein. It stands in the grounds
of the chateau, but is now a seperate family holiday home. It has three spacious
bedrooms that can comfortably sleep up to six adults with cots available for
toddlers and babies. Pets are welcome too!
This year the Daily Telegraph printed a special feature about Aquitaine in which we get a mention.

But it's not just Béarn's
waterways that are ripe for
carbon-zero exploration:
10 years ago, British couple
David and Lindy Gander set
up a bike rental shop in the
fortified town of Navarrenx.
Cycling around the quiet
lanes is a lovely way of
exploring the villages and
surrounding countryside;

Best of both worlds
Here you have the best of both worlds, as the house is situated in a typically
quiet South West France village, but is only a ten minute walk to Navarrenx, where you'll
find several bars, some with live music, restaurants, antique shops, art
gallery artisanal markets, cycle
hire, boulangeries, charcuteries and banks. There
are tennis courts, a large outdoor swimming pool and petanque area.

Lots to do...
Every year Navarrenx hosts the 'World Champion Salmon Fishing' competition
in the magnificent river, the 'Gave d'Oloron' where you can also try canoeing,
rafting and kayaking. If you prefer walking or cycling there are
hundreds of kilometres of quiet roads to do both, or cycle off-road on the
well marked forest routes. Horse
riding and hot
air ballooning are available locally too. This is an excellent site that shows local events throughout the year:

In July 2012, from the 16th to the 18th, the Tour de France rides through the Béarn on it's way to the Pyrénées via Pau
so plenty of opportunity to see and
experience the Tour 'live' several times.
